Dr. Danielle DeMel
Dept. of Critical Care
Dr. Danielle DeMel was born in raised in San Juan Capistrano, California. She grew up riding quarter horses competitively and worked as an equine veterinary assistant, which sparked an early interest in veterinary medicine.
She completed her undergraduate training at California Polytechnic University and earned her bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Science. She was lucky enough to stay in southern California to complete her doctorate in veterinary medicine at Western University of Health Sciences.
During her time as a veterinary student, Danielle had diverse interests in equine and small animal medicine and worked on multiple research projects involving equine podiatry and studying the immune response in horses to the canine lyme vaccine. She ultimately honed in on her passion for small animal emergency medicine during her fourth year of vet school, which inspired her to complete her first internship in Oceanside, California, in small animal emergency and general practice.
Dr. DeMel then completed a second specialty internship in Emergency and critical care at VCA emergency animal hospital and referral center in the beautiful city of San Diego, California. Still eager to continue her education, she moved to Los Angeles and completed a three-year residency in Emergency and Critical Care at ACCESS.
Danielle’s professional interests include environmental emergencies, trauma, and sepsis.
Outside of the hospital, Danielle enjoys outdoor activities like hiking with her dog, Boo Radley, as well as painting and listening to live music.
